Can something be done to control speeding around the entire development. The original Chase seems to be used as a drag race either to the roundabout or to the bridge. This stretch of road is becoming ridiculous as it is the main feed to the development over the bridge. I suggest that you actually spend some time on that stretch from 7am in the morning and 5pm weekdays and weekend morning.
I stress that is not every car, most are sensible but some seem to see it as a challenge. It will only take one person to be killed.
Thank-you, Andrew
Thank you for your post and in response, the roads in Newhall have been designed, approved, and built in accordance with all relevant standards for highway design, and were approved during the planning process by Harlow Council, with Essex County Council as a statutory consultees. The roads have been through mandatory road safety audits at the planning and detailed design stage, both prior to construction
There is in place a 20 mph Traffic Regulation Order across the entire Newhall site, and the on-site highways have, where possible, been designed to reduce traffic speeds even further. That said we are aware that some motorists do speed and we do work to address speeding concerns, we have implemented several measures:
1. Collaboration with local authorities:
The roads have been designed to include speed-reducing measures including speed limit signs, raised tables and other traffic calming measures.
2. Community awareness:
We work to raise awareness among residents about the dangers of speeding and promoting safe driving practices can help encourage responsible behaviour on our roads and we do this mainly via our social media channels.
3. Enforcement:
We work with Essex Police to monitor and enforce speed limits, which can also help discourage speeding
4. Resident Engagement:
As a resident you can report dangerous driving via the Safer Essex Roads Partnership ‘Extra Eyes’ initiative. This programme encourages people to report poor and dangerous driving instances in Essex, helping to improve road safety and reduce collisions. By reporting incidents and sharing video footage of irresponsible and illegal road behaviour, individuals can assist Essex Police in identifying and addressing offenders. This collaboration between the public and law enforcement enhances the effectiveness of existing police tools and contributes to safer roads across Essex. You can find out more about this scheme by clicking this link: https://tr.ee/3q8Bo4YKQ6.
Whilst we strive to provide appropriate infrastructure and adhere to safety regulations, it is important to note that policing the area and enforcing traffic regulations fall under the jurisdiction of Essex Police. Additionally, drivers share the responsibility for maintaining road safety by adhering to traffic laws, practicing caution and exercising good judgment while operating their vehicles. It is only through a combined effort that we can achieve safer roads for all.
If you have any further suggestions or feedback, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
Kind regards, Derek
