There have been a low number of reports regarding anti-social behaviour in Newhall. So we need to work together to create a safer, more peaceful community. Anti-social behaviour can negatively impact everyone, but here are some tips to address these issues in our neighbourhood:
- Communicate with your neighbours: Maintain open communication and discuss concerns with those involved.
- Be observant: Keep an eye on your surroundings and report any incidents to the appropriate authorities.
- Engage with local groups: Join and attend groups, such Neighbourhood Watch and local groups to stay informed and contribute to community initiatives. You can find out more about Harlow Neighbourhood Watch here.
- Report to the Police: If it’s an emergency dial 999 or if a non-emergency using the online reporting tool here.
Reporting Anti-Social Behaviour
Antisocial behaviour can range from aggressive and abusive actions to neighbourhood disturbances involving drugs, abandoned vehicles or animals. If you witness such behaviour in the area, please report it to us. Your neighbourhood includes any area where you live, work, or frequently visit.
If you’ve witnessed or experienced incidents of anti-social behaviour please TAP here to report.
We urge the community to report incidents so that Essex Police – Harlow District can increase patrols in the area and work to stop incidents like these.
Newhall and SHW are unable to report to the Police on residents behalf, as we are seen as third parties. We can only report an incident to the police if we have witnessed it and we believe a police response is required. This means that unless we witness the event, the Police consider such reports to be ‘hearsay’ and are unlikely to act. If a resident witnesses an incident or criminal activity, they must report it to the police directly, either on 999 for emergencies or 101 for less serious incidents.
If you need to report an issue you can do this online following these simple steps to report (Please note that you need to report here and the notes below are just to guide you through to successfully report online):
- Is anyone seriously injured, is there immediate danger or a risk to public safety? – Answer Yes/No. If you answer yes it will tell you to dial 999. If, No you will carry on with the online form.
- Is property being damaged right now? – Answer Yes/No. If you answer yes it will ask you to dial 101. If, No you will carry on with the online form.
- Did this happen on a train, at a train station, or on railway property? – Answer No.
- Where did this happen? – Add location (or use Current location) – Yes > Then verify the location > Is this location correct – No, edit or Yes.
- What is it about? – Answer Animals, Drugs, Neighbours, Neighbourhood area, Harassment, Vehicles or Something else. Depending on how you answer it will then ask you more questions relating to the issue. If you select Neighbourhood area, it will then ask you more questions and we would suggest you answer Someone’s behaviour or a concern for safety or Vandalism.
- Vandalism: You will need to answer further supplementary questions Private property > You can continue to make your report online using the online crime reporting service > Click ‘Start’ to begin.
- Someone causing a public disturbance: Report someone’s behaviour > You can report the following types of behaviour online > Start.
- Continue with the questions and follow through to complete a full report to Essex Police.
We want to reassure residents that incidents of anti-social behaviour in our area remain low. We have been in contact with the local Police and schools to discuss the issue and collaborate on maintaining the safety of our community.
As we continue to work together, we invite parents, carers, and residents to share your thoughts and ideas on how we can further enhance our efforts to keep our neighbourhood peaceful and enjoyable for all. Let’s continue to support one another and ensure that our community remains a safe and welcoming place for everyone.
